CONCLUSION

Syria 1996.jpg

Syrian coins of 1996.

The 1996 series was Syria's first thematic series.

It was a highly attractive set of designs.

Hardly any Arab countries had issued thematic coinages by 1996.

The coins of 2003 were slightly thicker and heavier.

I do not know the reason for this.

The coins of both series were close in size.

They ranged from 24 mm to 27 mm in diameter.

Usually there are more size gaps between coins.

That allows for easier recognition of the coins.

The reverse of the 25 pounds coin of 2003 is an anomaly.

It shows Western numerals and the legend is in English.

Relatively few Arab coins did so at that time.

This has changed somewhat in recent years.
