Rotating coin commemorates Queen Elizabeth II's record reign

Last updated 20:28, September 9 2015

A special series of stamps and a collector's coin have been released in commemoration of the Queen becoming the longest-reigning British monarch.

New Zealand Post has released a seven-stamp issue and a new collector's coin to mark Queen Elizabeth II taking the title from her great great grandmother Queen Victoria.

The world's first "rotating legal tender" coin features two gold-plated images of the Queen by Kiwi artists. On one side is a 1953 portrait of the uncrowned queen, by Mary Gillick, and on the other an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The 1 ounce silver inner section of the coin rotates inside a non-precious-metal outer rim. Only 2015 of the coins have been minted.
