This article, written by TIF, regroups a number of Roman coins on the theme of the Cloaca Maxima and Venus Cloacina, proving that the Romans appreciated solutions of big, malodorous problems threatening their health and making the big city Rome possible. It combines a nicely researched, light-footed text with excellent background illustrations and pictures of most splendid coins. Pecunia non olet indeed!
