Hi.
I'm Yogi, and I'm new here.

I was directed here by a companion who was trying to help me identify a coin.

We think it is Indian, although an Indian companion suggested it might be Persian.

I've had it for 3 years and know pretty-much nothing.

In case the pictures don't work, here are two links to images:

and

Info: The coin is not perfectly round.
The coin is about 3/4th of an inch across on average.
Its thickness doesn't appear to be totally even.
The edges are plain.
It is somewhat worn copper.
The designs seem to go off the coin-- making me think it was cut from something else, but looking at some of the older coins that seems common.

What I want to know is: When is it from?
Where exactly did it come from?
What is its denomination?
What Mint?
What is its commonality?
Does it hold any value?

It was tossed in with a mix of coins ranging from the late-1850s to, well, about 3 years ago when I got it.

Please help this poor woodland creature.  8)

Have a wonderful evening!

Spirit Bear welcome to WoC . Your coin looks like a Jodhpur 1/4 anna. I'll let you pick it out from this group. Makes it more fun  ;D .... It's one of the George VI coins

I had seen similar pieces in my research, and for a month I had thought it was a Jodhpur 1/4th anna from the '30s or '40s.

I'm still not seeing mine, though, unless I'm missing something?

Thank you for taking time to respond, though, and thank you for welcoming me here.  :)

I'm not sure how to upload pictures? It is saying my files are too large?

@josephjk

Images have to be under 128 KB . I've combined the images and re-oriented the coins... the part in the circle is the  numeral '6' (for George VI). The coin looks like a mistrike/ double strike of some kind.. maybe someone else can figure it out. One thing I do not doubt - it is a Jodhpur coin

Spirit Bear

I am amazed that you can understand that-- and thank you for showing me how they go and explaining this to me. :)

"Varieties exist"-- could that mean variations based on mint?

Design and uneven thickness leads me to believe the coin is double-struck or overstruck. Weight might help.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I'm afraid that I cannot get access to a scale.

Figleaf

Electronic mini-scales are cheap and sold in many places, including hardware stores and the internet. They protect you against fakes and have other uses besides coins.

Hmm... I'll look into them.
