Smaller three denominations are already available so mint images are no longer the latest about them.

However, about two higher denomination, there might be delay or  change as has happened in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Philipines, Panama etc.

There is lot of slip between the cup and the lip, as they say ( remains my favourite proverb😏)

The number of stars on each reverse design is as follows:

10 piasters - 17
20 piasters - 18
50 piasters - 13
1   pound    - 18
2   pounds  - 25

Are the stars simply there to fill the space, or do they have a significance?

I am pretty sure that there is no significance, however I will ask South African Mint.

The issuance of coins wasn't a big success as prices remain high in South Sudan. According to the chamber of commerce the new coins were only in circulation for 1-1.5 months. The Central Bank blames the commercial banks for failing to suply the coins to the public. According to them both the commercial banks and the public are rejecting the coins because of their value. The commercial banks blame the central bank for not providing the coins. Local merchants blame the central bank for issuing coins without having a sustainable way to get  them into circulation. Furthermore they find that the government needs to assess whether the coins in circulation are of any value to the trade in the country.

No news about these coins, the issuance of these coins was planned for mid 2016 so we still have to wait for some time.

Really well struck coins, I especially like the 1 Pound more than 2 pounds. :)
