I could really use some help to ID this coin. The only information I have is the it is an AE  is 17 mm x 4.1 grams.

Manzikert

It's an Ottoman manghir of Mehmed II, 868 H, Edirne mint I think.

Thank you,I've been trying to find information on this coin for sometime. That information is very helpful now I know where to look.

Checked out some manghir on zeno.ru all seem to be less than 2 grams, my coin is 4.1 grams. Could it be a different denomination?

Manzikert

No, the weights of manghirs vary greatly: looking at a random page in Olcer's 'Ornamental coinage of the Ottoman Empire' the three coins there weigh 1.82, 2.76 and 4.66 gm.

Good information thank you.

I came across two more coins that appear to be similar to the first one they are much smaller in size and weight. I must apologize for the bad pictures, there is much detail on either coin and they were very difficult to photograph. I not even such if I have them facing right.

The first coin is 13 mm x 1.4 grams, and the second one is 14 mm x 2.9 grams.

Thanks for all the help.

Hey Ski!

You know I really don't know much about this particular coin type. Based on an outwardly appearance I wouldn't be surprised if these coins are of the same mint and ruler. Both exhibit like calligraphy and patina. Could they have been found together? Did you acquired all at the same time from the same source? I mean thats awesome Mehmed II is uber important in Byzantine history. Talk about one of the defining moments. I just can't over how historic the coins are!  :o

These all came from a lot of 2000 un-cleaned coins I bought a number of years ago. They have been sitting unidentified for a long time. Thanks to the folks here The one has finally been attributed. I suspect that these two might also be of Mehmed II, but I just want to have that verified.
