1887 Silver US dollar

I'm pretty sure I picked this coin up at a Yuma Arizona swap meet about 40 years ago :-)  VF I think?

Not an expert, but looks much better than VF to me. A nice example of a classic design.

I wouldn't hesitate calling it ef, but those are my standards. In the end, unless you want to sell it without a picture, why care about the grade?

I would call it EF. But by USA standards for coins of the 19th century, probably AU.
I too am not an expert but have owned a few dozen I think. Might still have two or three somewhere.

Could be EF...I'm not that much of an expert either.  She's a nice Silver and Peter is correct...not going anywhere ;-)  My coin!

Out of curiosity I might have it graded.  I look at the pictures and think it could very well grade as AU :-)  Thank you.

I'm still not sure but it is close.
Regardless it is a very nice coin.

I'd be surprised if it didn't come back AU, Greg. At least a 55 I'd guess.

If you do send it in, please let us know how it grades.

Good to hear, Greg. I thought it was AU, though maybe a bit stronger than 50. You really do have to have a coin in-hand to grade properly.

I am not surprised. I was pretty sure it would. A lot of USA collectors don't realize this but in General US coins of the 19th century and before are graded (in the US) slightly less strictly than 20th and 21st century coins. Submit a 1920's something Dollar with the same amount of wear and you will get an EF. Which leads to the subject of ..... but lets not get me started on "Market Grading"  ;D
Very nice coin, Congratulations!
