Tynwald is the legislature (parliament) of the Isle of Man. It was established in 979. Tynwald Day is the National Day of the Isle of Man, usually observed on 5 July. In 1979 the Isle of Man issued a special fifty pence coin to commemorate Tynwald's millennium. It shows a replica Viking ship, on whose sail is written "manx millennium viking voyage". The mast also features the Millennium logo: a circle containing a stylised triskele.

The standard circulation coins of 1979 carried a special circular mint mark that included the stylised triskele.

Isle of Man, 50 pence, 1980.  New York Exhibition.  Edge inscription:  ODINS RAVEN VIKING EXHIBN NEW YORK 1980.



Pobjoy also minted this 1980 version of the coin, with a special edge inscription.
