Portuguese Uma Rupia 1912 struck over 1911
« on: January 09, 2015, 12:15:06 PM »
This is a Portuguese India Uma Rupia from my collection. The speciality of this coin is that the date 1912 was struck over 1911 (supposed to be rarer than ordinary 1912 Uma Rupia). The left  corner of slant line of 1 at the top & left corner of pedestal of 1 at the bottom in 1911 can be seen protruding out of the left top & bottom of 2 in 1912.
Obv: Draped Liberty bust facing left, date is given below

Rev: INDIA UMA RUPIA within an olive branch and an oak branch, tied together by a ribbon. Also there are two letters V A below the ribbon which are the initials of Valancio Alves, the die engraver.
Diameter = 30 mm
Weight = 11.6 grams

Nice catch, conlover! The overdate is quite clear. AFAIK the only one among the coins of Portuguese India.

Very nice! Might I suggest you take a picture of the overdate for illustration? It will certainly help our members...

Though there is a mention of the 1912 overdate Rupee in the Krause (KM#18), that doesnt seem to the case with A Gomes(#09.01), uploaded scans for both the coins from my collection.

Also clearly visible in the scan is the name "V Alves" the engraver of this coin.

Not sure what you wanted to achieve. Replaced the link to Google drive with URL. Seems like the same picture set.
