ANGOLA: New circulating coins of 20, 50 and 100 kwanzas

Hi friends.

The National Bank of Angola will put in circulation new coins of 20, 50 and 100 kwanzas. The first one has been the coin of Kz 20, in commemoration of the Queen Njinga. The coin is bimetallic, with bronze plated steel ring and silver(?) plated steel center.



D: 27,9 mm
W: 12,8 gr
Ring: Bronze plated steel
Center: Silver(?) plated steel
Edge: Reeded

The new coins of 50 and 100 kwanzas will be issued the next year in commemoration of 40 anniversary of independence.

Excellent news. The existing circulation coins show the coat of the arms on the obverse.

I can't see where the year is on this new issue. Unfortunately the website logo obscures part of the coin.

If you go to site and see, the year is not blocked by website logo.
The year is 2014.

Angola: BNA Releases New 20 Coin Kwanzas

24 DECEMBER 2014

Malanje — The National Reserve Bank of Angola (BNA) officially released on Tuesday 20 coin Kwanzas, to get into circulation in 2015, in tribute to Queen Njinga Mbande, in recognition of her role to defend self-determination and cultural identity of her people.

The two-coloured currency, coated in bronze and silver, has the sphinx of Queen Njinga Mbande and its launch marks the celebrations of her 351 years of death.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Culture Minister, Rosa Cruz e Silva, said that the homage to the Queen is fair deserved, due to her fight in the defence of the sovereignty of the two kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba.

To the minister, the position defended by the queen in favour of the country served for the motivation alongside the history for everyone that suggested for her steps to gain a spirit of fight, firmness and principles that the history experienced, which enabled to face long battles to conquest the freedom of her people.

On his turn, the governor of BNA, José Massano de Lima, said that coin put into circulation on Tuesday countrywide is a fair recognition to the queen of Ndongo for courage and determination in the defence of the sovereignty and culture and of the Angolan people.

The launch act of coin was witnessed by members of the provincial government of Malanje, BNA employees, chieftains and ecclesiastics authorities, as well as representatives of the civil society.

BNA will put into circulation as from next year 50 and 100 coins kwanzas, under the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the national independence.

the new coin of 20 kwanzas is bigger than 10 kwanzas?
20 Kwanzas is 27.9 mm diameter , what is the diameter of the 10 kwanzas?
