Sorry, but I simply dislike the idea. Your design is not even bad ;) but a flag with the twelve stars on a coin that has a ring consisting of the twelve stars? Plus a few more stars? Hmpf.

I know this has been discussed in some forums (as a rumor about a possible joint issue) but from what I have read, there won't be such an issue - certainly not in 2015. If the euro area ever issues such a piece (in 2016 maybe? The EU started using the flag in 1986), the design should be revised. Maybe do away with the ring design for this one issue, don't know.

Or let us wait until 2055 - that would be the 100th anniversary of the flag being initially adopted by the Council of Europe. Don't get me wrong, I support the idea of having such symbols. But a flag on a coin that already uses the core element of the flag design is not what I want ...

I am inn another corner. There are so many issues for non-events that a 30-year-old flag seems worthy in comparison. My problem is more that the lines the stars in the centre draw are typical for a centrifugal force. If there should be such symbolism, it should be the opposite: a centripetal force.

That new design I like better than the first one. The tree looks good, but I don't know whether it should actually be the primary symbol on a coin that is about the flag ...

With this design, I would leave the "third circle" out. The Stars of Europe on the ring, well, that is mandatory, I think. The flag with the stars at the bottom makes sense, especially with the flag "in motion". But the circle in the upper part of the tree, nah. ;)

I think the tree symbolism is pretty good. The small and the large branches, the thin branches and the thick trunk, the individual leaves on the single organism, the star, happening to overlap the trunk, it all works. There's the usual problem of oversized leaves, but I don't find it disturbing. This elegant design would be the perfect revenge for the stick man disaster.

... which was the second common 2 issue, of three so far. There was one before that one, and one after that one, and those two were OK or even good in my opinion. But that is apparently not what "sticks". (Pun intended.)

Not sure about the blue in the flag, by the way. Heraldically, that would (in b/w) be horizontal stripes, but I think the EU suggests leaving the field white.

I don't like the stars with the hole in the tree. I prefer it when the stars are a little hidden, maybe you could make the stars bigger too, I don't know if that would work, make the tree a little more 3D with branches going behind each other, might make it a bit too complicated.

Are you sending this design into some competition?
