I'm looking for an illustrated book on the history of the Roman Empire. Not very detailed, but not too sketchy either---something in-between a "popular" and an academic text really. Any suggestions?

Would this book meet with your approval?

This one is a bit sparsely illustrated, but you can probably buy the TV series on DVD.

Thanks a ton. I am picking up the first two for now. The second one is too cheap to pass up and Amazon India has just two copies left.

Thanks. I have seen it in bits and pieces (on the History channel, if I remember correctly) for I remember the Julius Caesar part.

I picked up a book I am truly enjoying reading: Chronicle of the Roman Emperors (Thames & Hudson Publishers). The balance between text and illustrations and the style of writing is just right to sustain my interest. I was so impressed, I ordered more books of the Chronicle series: Chronicle of the Roman Republic, Chronicle of the Russian Tsars, and Chronicle of the Pharaohs. All are used copies in excellent condition, priced INR 305 each at Amazon India.
