It just struck me that E PLURIBUS UNUM should have been placed on the side with the connected "fingers", while LIBERTY would have been more appropriate on a ball destined to fly free than on the device meant to capture the ball. :)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Almost. ;) Initially, between 1912 and 2001, the abbreviation IAAF was short for International Amateur Athletics Federation. Then it meant International Association of Athletics Federations, and roughly a year after your post (mid-2019) the name was changed to the current World Athletics. Here is a German €10 collector coin from 2009, with the same abbreviation.

Here's an interesting question: Which country first issued a coin with curved planchet? The only curved coin I have is an Australian one (dated 2015) which commemorates 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (which Australia eventually won):

The discussion about curved or domed coins is now in "Coin Characteristics":

Let's focus on shapes over there, and on staying in shape, i.e. sports, here. ;)
