Alderney, 5 pounds, 2014.  100th Anniversary of the Birth of Dylan Thomas.

But what did this Welshman have to do with Alderney?

Interesting design. I like the way the fern twigs are in front of his jacket but behind his head. :) As for the connection, come on, that is easy. The fern refers to Fern Hill, a poem written by Dylan Thomas. In 1975, John Arlott picked Fern Hill as one of his Desert Island items, and only a few years later he moved to ... Alderney!

We still do not know why the Dylan Thomas piece is issued by Alderney. This interview with the coin designer Lee Jones does not address the question either but is nevertheless interesting.

Side note - Pretty much the only thing that I know about cricket is that it is vaguely related to baseball which I do not know much about either. ;D
