ONLY 100 sets available at all the bank branches in my area, some had even less like 70 sets-

There seems to be serious interest for these coins, banks open at 09:00 but, one of the branches had people waiting from 07:45 and the coins ran out in 20 minutes, this is what it said at 09:20-

Another one at the Bank near my work place-

Excellent coins...but how can ordinary collectors (like me) from outside Japan get these? :-\

Thank you, much appreciated! :)

I wonder if these coins are (were) also issued on rolls too? I guess not...

yes, these coins are issued in a roll of 50 from the mint, but they are separated by the bank and issued in plastic covers with the bank name on it, let me share some pictures later in the evening.

I managed to get a set of these coins...That was quite surprising acquisition by mistake. I was under impression that these are ¥500 coins and not ¥100, placed somewhat higher bid based on misconception and won it. :D

Anyway, very happy to add them to my collection, tiny coins look so pretty! :)

dear aditya,
i am sorry i never got back to you on this, i do have a couple of extra sets, but i was just waiting for someone to hand carry it and get it sent from India, as it is not ok to send out local coins from Japan by post. any ways glad you were able to add these nice coins to your collection. The next set of four coins, Hokkaido, Akita, Sanyo and Kyusyu would be released next year.

No problem, Mahe. The coins indeed arrived from Japan but since they were so little and light in weight, it didn't cause any problems. As for paying high price, it's OK IMO. On eBay, you win some battles, you lose some...I have seen some strange examples where a seller had listed a particular coin for say $60 (buy it now), he listed the same coin in auction format with starting bid of $1 and some enthusiastic collector ended up in winning it for $65. ;D

Next four coins in the series. You can have them either loose or packed in a blister.

I have to look several times to be convinced these are actually different coins. Very sad excuse for a series continuation
