Suspicious specimen #1
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:27:26 PM »
The last batch of coins I bought included a number of hammered Polish coins, some Romans and a fake sovereign (sold as a real one, though I suspected it was fake when I purchased it, As I was after the other coins). Also included was this coin, and a smaller coin of a similar type. I am unsure if this one is real.
Details;

Metal: unknown
Weight: 4.35g
Diameter: 29mm

The metal this coin is made of does not seem like silver, though I could be wrong, the metal is hard enough though.

Your thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated

This indeed looks like a very bad cast copy of a 15 Kreuzer of Leopold I from Austria.
The surface is the first giveaway. The weight a second, this should be 6.1 grams.
