My friend Dr. Alberto Paashaus send me these informations received from URBS Curitiba

1) The metal tokens were destined exclusively to the payment of the tariff of the collective transport of Curitiba.
2) The metal tokens were used in the system during the period from 1988 to 2002. So much to
introduction of the tokens as his substitution for the card transports that they were carried out in the form gradual.
3) For beginning of the use of the metal tokens the introduction was necessary of turnstiles automatic in the buses and terminals. Already for the use of the cards transport that they were introduced equipments of validation (validadores). The substitution of the metal token for the card transport was necessary to give more security and comfort to a passenger, besides bigger control and automation of the system.

Not nearly as unusual, but fun, here is a bus token from Viação Pavunense S.A., a Brazilian bus company from Rio de Janeiro. This token is said to have been used around 1970.

On the net, I found a variety with the diacritical mark on the "a" in an odd place in yellow. I'd appreciate a Smith number for both.
