A good numismatic day

Had an excellent day with 2 cash transactions.  Picked up 2007 and 2008 Britannia 50ps which I hadn't seen in circulation before- Tony's site hasn't mentioned it being available.  The old girl ain't dead yet!

I now have all the old design 2008 coins now up to 50p. Also picked up a Gibraltar 20p, a new design 20p and also the two 2007 commemorative £2 coins. Not bad for a total spend of about £4!

This is the first I have heard of a UK 2008 50p Britannia in change. I had almost given up on ever finding one.... but now there is a chance. I still have not seen anything of the older design 1 Pound of 2008 circulating.

I'll go back to where I got it tomorrow (Sainsburys in Edinburgh) and see if I can get another-if you want it I can PM you.  There were lots of shiny new coins in the till.

It s not quite worth putting one in the post....  But I will be keeping a close eye on my change and that of others for one of these and the Pound to go with it.

Perhaps not worth a picture - just a new date...

But there is a difference in the 2008 50p obverses - the the Britannia design 50p coins (old design series) there is a point (one of the seven corners of the flan) above the portrait and on the new design series coins there is a point (one of the seven corners of the flan) below the portrait.

picked up a second 2008 Britannia 50p today- so there are plenty in Edinburgh.  Good luck finding them elsewhere!

I struck lucky today with my change.....

I got this 2008 2 Pounds for the centenary of the London Olympics of 1908.

Has anyone seen any sign of an "old" series 1 Pound dated 2008 in change ? I haven't had the 2008 Britannia 50p either.

Then it will be fingers crossed for Olympic Handover 2 Pound coin from change - then that will be the lot......

  I haven't got any of the British 2008 commemorative coins yet.I do have a 2008 Portcullis 1p. & a 2008 new reverse 5p. so far.

  You've got the 2009 commemoratives to get,which includes the Robert Burns commemorative 2 Quid coin & a 50p. with what looks like a pagoda on the reverse.

The Pagoda is from Kew Gardens, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the gardens.  There is also the Darwin £2 as well, commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth.

I got my first new design 50p today, hence completing my jigsaw, and also, at last, the 2004 Trevithick Industry progress coin.  Still missing two commonwealth games flags to complete my Bimetallic commemoratives to end 2007.  I'm also missing the 2008 normal design 2p, 20p £1 and £2, the commemorative £2s and the dateless 20p mule .  No sign of any 2009 coins yet.

  I'm missing only the St. George's Cross one from that 2002 British Commonwealth Games British flags series.I haven't got that train one.I was very pleased to get the 2007 Scouts Centenary 50p.,as I am a retired Cub Scout Six Leader myself.

Here is the Pagoda at Kew Gardens. I took the photo about 15 years ago. The image here is a photo I have just done of my original photo and so colouring is not perfect (a scan would have been better - but not as quick)......
