always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

Yes, Mamluk:
Al-Salih Imad al-Din Ismail, 1342-1345 AD, Fals, Cairo, Balog 285-6.

The coin is very crude and may possibly be a contemporary forgery(?)

Best wishes

Thanks Alan.

Is Cairo the mintname?
I had wondered if it was a catalogue reference.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Andyg, the full reference is: Balog, P., Coins of the Mamluk Sultans of Egypt and Syria, Numismatic Studies, American Numismatic Society, No.12, New York 1964.

Yes, the mint is Cairo (al-Kahirah).

Best wishes
