My counterfeits!
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:29:20 AM »
Hi,

I found all these counterfeits in a garage sale some years ago and of course I didn't pay much for them. It was a mother selling her son's collection of old "silver" coins, since I had a magnet along I could easily convince her they were all fakes. When I go to markets I always have a small magnet and a small magnifying glass along...

I have a few other fakes, which I haven't documented yet, but I'll come around to do it some day :D

I am amazed at how even medium value coins are faked. I carry a magnet, but also pocket scales and sometimes the full KM (electronic version, of course.) Pocket scales are handy also when you buy jewellery. They hate it when you weigh stuff and compare with gold or silver price, but there are also those who will negotiate when you show you understand that there is a price to be paid for labour.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
