I use Numista.com.. it's a good place for beginners. Also allows for downloading into Excel as your collection gets more advanced....

Dude Numista is dumb compared to softwares. First there are no pics and second details like source, additional notes, thickness, diameter,etc. cant be stored

I am using OpenNumismat https://code.google.com/p/open-numismat/.
This is an opensource coin cataloging software available in multiple platforms. The updates are regular and data stored in sqllite database that can be accessed directly.

Thanks, I just downloaded it and my first impression about the interface, ease to use is pretty good. I just entered couple of coins in the database as an experiment and found it very easy. Shall try more tricks this weekend. :)
