2x2 coin holders
« on: April 23, 2014, 02:03:37 PM »
Should I change the 2x2 in which the coin is being stored? If yes, what is the time period?
Also, do the kangaroo [blue box] staples rust?

The time period varies and depends on the quality of the holders.
Coin Holders should be changed every 3-4 Years as a general guideline.
Typical things to notice would be
- Staple Pins have rusted
- The window is not very clear
- The paper has turned orange

Of Course if the coin itself starts looking bad, its right now to change.

If any of the above "symptoms" are not observed should i still change the 2x2's?

Ideally yes, but can be delayed ...
All Stapler pins rust its only a question of time ... the bad ones rust very fast ... the good ones especially Stainless steel would rust after a very long time ...

I've never heard of Stainless Steel rusting? Can you upload a pic
I store my coins in 2x2 sheets in a d-ring binder and i keep it in a drawer in my cupboard. There is no incoming sunlight. How many packets of silica gel, if necessary, should i put?

Just keep the pins outside in the windows and see what happens after few months ... keeping it away from sunlight and humidity etc will delay the rusting ...

You won't get Self Adhesive coin holders anywhere in India...

All kinds of coin storage accessories have their own pros and cons. So go ahead with the one which suits you the best.
