The European Central Bank has just published the "volume of coin issuance in 2009". In general, the euro area member states notify the ECB about the issue volume planned for the new year, and the central bank will OK that. This year the total volume will be about 2.4 billion (actually 2,397.8 million) euro. Spain seems to need quite a bit this year (390m), Austria 216m, and so on.
