I can see the date AH 930 or 939?. Is it a coin of the Mughal Empire or one of the Islamic Sultanates? The dia is 15mm and weight is 8.69g.

This looks like an anonymous falus from the reign of Mughal emperor Humayun, dated 939 AH, Lahore mint.

Digital enhancements are evil when selling coins but I think OK for the sake of reading.
As for AH 939, so much for linear numbering!

Richie, that was fantastic work. I was confused on the date because there is a dot to the right of the 3 and the 9 was a little below and to the right of the 3. However now the picture is quite clear. Thanks once again.

Richie, I forgot to salute Overlord for his help. As I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I have really learnt a lot from following the discussions on the forum and the senior members have been a great source of inspiration. I used to collect coins - actually hoard them. I tried to get help from so called local experts in Ahmedabad as well as Delhi and Mumbai and all that I could get is the identification of the coin - Name of king or ruler and mint. Even this was with great difficulty. In fact I suceeded only with my Mughal coins (and that too, I am not sure whether the identification is accurate). But no one was there to teach how to read the coins. On this forum I have seen knowledge being imparted liberaly. In fact this has increased my interest in the hobby manyfold. I hope and pray that may the tribe of the teachers on this forum increase. It will benifit many like me who are interested in the hobby but are not able to proceed due to lack of knowledge and guidance.

That's fantastic to hear, asm. That's exactly how the forum was meant to be: a source of inspiration and a medium for the exchange of knowledge. We are all learning for fun here.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
