Finland 2014: Tove Jansson (born 100 years ago)
« on: April 15, 2014, 01:52:23 PM »
What do the artist Tove Jansson and the former Finnish president Urho Kekkonen have in common, coin wise? They are the only people who have been honored two times. Tove Jansson is best known for being the creator of the "Moomins". In 2004 a 10 collector coin was issued for her 90th birthday (she had died in 2001). This year, in February 2014, two more followed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jansson's birth - see here.

The two silver coins (10 and 20) have the same design; note how the horse spreads across both sides. A small image is attached; larger image are here:

The 10 coin (Ag 500, 28.5 mm, 10 g) costs 38 euro; mintage 25,000. The 20 piece (Ag 925, 38.6 mm, 25.5 g) is 61 euro; mintage 5,000. They were designed by Jarkko Roth.
