German New Guinea - 10 Mark Gold
« on: April 07, 2014, 08:24:49 AM »
Just bought this gem - it has solid provenance.

It is rarer than the 20 Mark German New Guinea gold ... and one of just a handful in existence.

Bought on the Noble Auction (Sydney, Australia) last week.

What a beauty! Every millionaire should own one.  :D  In the history of the depiction of wildlife in modern coin design, it is a classic. It's also among the relatively few coins that lack text on one side, so the piece has a lot going for it.

More info here. Good research, but the article is badly marred by the germanophobic opinions of Mr. Rogers.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
