Site Worldcoinnews says about bimetallic version "mintage 1000 "  !!!
so this coin is minted for circulation or only for collectors ??

Pabitra

Yes. The news is by me.
There is no demand for such coins in the country itself.
Same is true for recent bimetallic coins issued in Comoros and Timor L'este.

These are small countries with populations of nearly half a million. The currency used is of adjoining big nations.
Sales guys from European mints sell them the concept of bimetallic coins.

In EU, ultra modern numismatics has become concentrated in bimetallic coins, especially 2 Euro commem coins, issued by all the EU members.

When they had just been issued, Timor L'Este sets where widely available in Lisbon, but hard to get elsewhere. It may be similar for new Cabo Verde issues. Maybe our Portuguese members can enlighten us?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

When I said Timor L'este, I had this coin in mind.
This was issued last year whereas set excluding this was issued several years ago.

About this bimetallic coin, Portuguese mint lady clearly told me in WMF Berlin that these have not yet been accorded permission to them for selling. I know the dealers are more resourceful than mint which minted these coins.
By the way, I might be visiting Portugal in Sept. Please let me know where can I have this?

Also, Cape Verde coins are generally minted in the Royal mint. Is this coin of Cape Verde an exception?

So, do you think this coin really does not circulate?
all 1000 coins will be sold to collectors?

I got my piece from a Portuguese seller few days after it was 'issued'. I just checked his eBay store and it's out of stock now...

Even if they are issued in normal channels, they are cornered by dealers and their agents.
It has no link with mintage. It is almost a guaranteed business success, if you are a regular dealer and have capital with staying power.

In China, every year, on the Chinese New Year , they issue a new coin ( for last 12 years, they have been doing it), with a mintage of 1 billion pieces. There are long queues and there is a ration of 3 coins per person. Even then, these coins have to be bought at a premium by collectors outside China.

It appears that we have another bimetallic commemorating 40th Anniversary of Independence.
