I understand that an error issue is also quite controversial in India as well.  :o

At last, proof that the Romans were in India  ;)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

The 50 paisa "Nritya mudra" looks like a Ninjutsu punch to me  :D

Hey, that's a great idea! We can mint both coins ("thumbs up" and "thumbs down"), then make our politicians fight one another in Gladiator-style contests to decide our next election. If more "thumbs-down" coins were thrown in the arena, the losing politician would be spared, if there were more "thumbs up" coins...  >:D

Sorry folks, I missed out the heading of the third series - it is called CONNECTIVITY and INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. These coins were designed by the National Institute of Design (NID) located in Ahmedabad who were given this task.

You will be pleased to know that I have got the 2005 'Cross' 1 Rupee & 2 Rupees, plus a 2007 Star with the 2 fingers pointing away from you.

My knowledge of modern Indian coin mintmarks need brushing up.I know that the coins with no mintmark were struck at Calcutta.

Aidan.

Aidan, The coins with the star mint mark are from Hyderabad mint, those with a diamond from Mumbai and the dot represents the Noida mint. As you mentioned, Kolkatta (Calcutta) mint does not use any mark.

Touching old thread ,  except few denominations most of the coins were issued as per chart posted by asm.

Means plans turned into actions by all authorities.

Cheers ;D
