What an unusual coin shape!

Do you have any idea how these flans were produced?

It almost looks like very thick pieces of copper wire were hammered flat, then struck.

These afghan coins have been struck on oblong flan like those of the safavid ruler Husayn Shah of Iran, struck at this same time.
ex:  this silver 5 shahis of Husayn Shah : http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=126452

(weights are : 10,67 g for the peacock & 10,30g for the lion/ deer)
The flan has been cut like that and was not obtained from a folded sheet of copper.

(I'll post soon an iranian falus made with such a folded sheet of copper)

They are similar shaped & have similar reverse so that counts as both similar & swappable  ;D ;D ;D

I fear this has to be decided with a mud wrestling match. I am selling (no-refund) tickets. Site members get a 10% discount. :D :D :D

Two tickets, a big cola, and a bucket of popcorn please  >:D

These are extremely attractive coins and I wouldn't wait a single moment to bid on one if I spotted it within my affordable range. I'd love to own one as well!

These coins today are difficult to obtain, they are few and costs are often heavier than for silver coins.

More and more collectors pay interest to Middle East coinage and in addition, there is no real need in persian language to appreciate the designs of a real artistic quality. ( And even if legends are not clear : WoC forum is here... ;D
