Panama 1/4 balboa 1983
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:37:36 AM »
I have two different versions of the Panama KM88 1/4 balboa dated 1983.

One is just the regular one, but the other one has a small inscription 0,500 ley just under R in Republica on the obverse.

Does anybody knows anything about this coin?

The extra text indicates the silver fineness (50%). But AFAIK the silver version with the 0,500 text was last issued in 1961 (KM 25). The 1983 ź balboa (as opposed to the 25 centésimos) is in Cu-Ni and proof only.

Can you post some pictures?

Weird. Can't explain that, except that perhaps there were silver proofs made that aren't covered by KM.
