Thanks very much Alan - any idea what the characters in the square relate to?

Well, you got the big lot - so I thought it my turn >:D
There were three coins in the lot, one a common Maratha paisa - one with a leaf that has me baffled (I posted it earlier) and this odd thing that drew my attention :)

Sorry Andy, I've no idea what they mean, but it was these strange Western letters that let me identify it: I have a couple that were in the 'no idea' bag until a couple of years ago when I stumbled across the identification (they weren't in KM when I got them)

This is not one of my stolen coins, but I had two like them. Got them in a collection of VOC coins. It was clear that they weren't but until Oesho identified them I had no idea what they were.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Thanks all for your comments :)
I guess this will remain a puzzle for a while.

btw. Capn, I didn't realise that it was you bidding on this lot.

I didn't know it was you either Andy  :o that must happen a lot, if we want a coin we bid for it & take our chances I suppose, some you win some you lose & lately (apart from that big lot) I usually lose  :'(

Found for sale on eBay, from Kazakhstan : a dangerous fake of this scarce civic copper of Lenjeh, dated 1247  :anger:  ...

looks rather suspicious, particularly with the  half rounded sausage script which can be done with very small jewellers tools ( no puns about small jewellers please  :D)
