You heard it here first !

I have now added a lot more information to my website...

Coins (and main index)...

http://www.wbcc.fsnet.co.uk/africa.htm

Tokens...

http://www.wbcc.fsnet.co.uk/aftokens.htm

It is about 5 years since I last added anything to those pages.

There is now only 2 per cent of the available webspace remaining... perhaps I will consider it complete at this point.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

I wonder if anything is ever complete... I remember you coming in to the "coins" mailing list (now gone) wondering if there'd be an interest in African numismatics and saying you didn't want to set up something someone else had already done. You were a pioneer, actually.

It is your decision to continue or not, of course. Just to make sure you consider the consequences. As you don't update, the site will slowly fall behind, slowly lose the function of prime source of information it has now and slowly die. If you do update, it should be fun, not a duty and there would be a cost, energy, time and money.

One solution might be to specialise. Hive off a part and leave that to someone else, continuing with the rest.

Another solution might be to place some of the information here and link to it from your website.

Your website remains pretty unique to this day - how many other sites cover African tokens?
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

And that is the problem for me, my site hasn't been updated in years and the idea of updating it simply generates a feeling of dread within me.

I like the African site, especially the token part. Would be a shame for that info to disappear.

I have the casinos austria ride a luck wave token in 25mm diameter shown on your site.

Many thanks! You will always be the first one ever having a helpful site of African coins and tokens!  :D

I have two remarks on the newly shown pieces:

Morocco, Shems Casino: The piece of 2 Dirhams exixts in 22.4 mm and in 24.3 mm (probably your 24.5 mm). Design is exaxtly the same. I will send the smaller piece in the next days together with some casino tokens from Madagascar to you. A piece of 5 Dirhams in similar design is also known.

Rwanda, Aerogare Kigali: There is also a piece of 50 Francs (picture added). I agree fully these being extremely rare.

A few responses to my post. Thanks.

First a reply to Peter... It is the work on the pages located at www.wbcc.fsnet.co.uk  that is complete or almost... and that is because there is only 2 per cent of the small webspace still available AND soon I will have to stop using the simple webpage writer that makes it all.

I am worked out for a new bit of webspace where the images can be bigger etc... PERHAPS I will move everything from the current webspace to the new space but it would not be a case of copying over the files.

As for "coins" mailing list...  I found the message (in my mail program) where I first announced my Africa pages on the "coins" mailing list...

That was a long time ago.

Yes - my... Morocco, Shems Casino piece of 2 (Dirhams) could well be 24.3mm.

I do not remember seeing an image of the Kigali "50" before now. Interesting.

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Now, there is a real alternative. WoT. You wouldn't be the first to transfer to wiki software. Two immediate advantages: it's free and space is not limited. Immediate disadvantages: tokens only and transferring stuff. Stuff on coins would generally be known and anyway, we wouldn't be difficult.

My favourite web site on heraldry was transferred over a long time (two years?), but it is now almost done. You could do it the same way: start with a logical group of countries, e.g. Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Transfer them and replace the pages on your site with links to the "new" site (you can even transfer hits automatically if you wish). Repair links and add generic pages as you see fit. Add stuff on your old site, there will be new space available. When you are set and done, add another country, e.g. Libya. Carry on like that until the whole site is transferred. You can take your time, but the knowledge you have gathered will be safe and preserved when it is transferred.
