Here is a southern hemisphere sun dial in my garden. I believe they work the reverse way round. The time is correct on January 2nd, at other times you have to add or subtract according to the tables provided.

BTW the inscription reads "Be as true to each other as this dial is to the sun"

PS That is a nice red parrot's droppings, he's allowed in my garden.

Those sun dial links are quite remarkable, I especially like the German handheld piece  8)
