At our place , SBI distributing plenty of these coin to local people,  in a pack of 100 coins, restricted to one pack per person, i managed to grab one pack of 100 coins of Noida mint. :)

You mean banks give out commemorative coins to people in a bag? I need only one UNC! Does this happen all the time, when a new coin is introduced to the public? Where can I find a bank that does distribute? Will it be over by now? Please let me know. Thanks.

Pete :)

Normally, all the coins are issued and distributed by the RBI through its own branches and the Branches of the other Indian Banks. The new coins normally come in a Polythene bag, each having 100 Coins. But  the new coins and notes are generally distributed by those branches, which have a Currency Chest with them.

Banks typically give out commemoratives or regular coins to large merchants who have account with them. This is part of the distribution network. If you walk into a Branch, chances are you will not get anything. So its mostly luck or you are a merchant who keeps getting the change from Banks and can keep the commemorative ones
If you are in Metro's even the RBI office issues coins in bank, typically one bag per person in queue again its luck that would govern what you get ...

This is the second time in recent months when SBI branch distributed these coins to general people, probably tomorrow i will post the images of my 100 coins pack of mata vaishno devi which i manage to get by standing in queue..

Area where there is shortage of small denominations, authorized SBI branches distribute coins to general public, they distributed pack on 1rs coin too.

Thanks
