MANILA - The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will circulate P10 commemorative coins bearing national hero Andres Bonifacio to highlight the nationwide celebration of his 150th birth anniversary.

BSP Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said the central bank will introduce 10 million pieces of the Bonifacio commemorative coin nationwide.

Bonifacio founded the Katipunan, the nationalistic society that ignited the flames of the revolution that led to the declaration of Philippine independence in 1986.

The coin has the same size of 26.5 millimeters in diameter and weight of 8.70 grams as the P10 coin already in circulation.

Bonifacio's portrait is etched on the obverse of the coin, along with the markings, '150 years', 'Republika ng Pilipinas' and '2013'. The reverse side, meanwhile, features the BSP seal, the signature of the hero, the Bonifacio monument and the markings, '150 years', 1863-2013' and the 'Dangal ng Kabayanihan'.

The BSP previously issued P1 commemorative coins for the 150th birth anniversary of national hero Jose Rizal.
