In the "Elephants on Coins" topic, I showed a new piece from Spain. But since that is an elephant on a coin on a coin, why not mention it here as well. :)

Worth the wait. The proof effect is distracting, but otherwise, the coin sums it up quite nicely. Funny how the fact that all coins are pictured the same size doesn't bother me.

Peter

It echoes the 1983 "$1" illustrated a few posts further up, also with nine coins, and also all the same size.  I think the 1983 one is the better - our commemorative coin design quality seemed to have started to slip by the early 1990s.  The 1992 example feels "flatter" to me, though I agree the photo isn't the best (I cropped it out of a larger one that included the plush presentation case - and it's also in a hard plastic capsule).

Here is a Peruvian 20 soles with an early Spanish colonial coin in the centre, marked P (Lima). The legend says: •CUATRICENTENARIO.DE.FVNDACION.DE.LA.CASA.D MONEDA - 400th anniversary of the establishment of the mint. There are lower values in base metal with the same design.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Is that a real coin, embedded in the Uganda 1999 1000 shillings collector coin?

Don't think so - see here:
