Crown of Aragon
and previous states: County of Barcelona and Kingdom of Aragon

All the states that ever comprised the Crown of Aragon

The Crown of Aragon is the name given to the states under dominion of the descendents of Ramón Berenguer IV, count of Barcelona, and Petronila, queen of Aragon, married in 1150. Originally it comprised both the county and the kingdom, keeping each one its own sovereignty and independence, what means that Barcelona (nor any catalan county) never was a part of the kingdom of Aragon.

Barcelona, along with the counties of Girona, Osona, Besalú and Cerdanya, became the Principality of Catalonia (however, there never was a "prince of Catalonia"; the title for its sovereign was still Count of Barcelona).

Eventually, kingdoms of Mallorca, Valencia, Sicilia, Napoli, and the catalan counties of Urgell, Empuries and Pallars, among many other states, joined the crown, being split later some of them.
