I just received a beautiful Queen Victoria Shilling from 1887. It was supposed to have been minted for one her jubilee's. The coin is very gorgeous and I wanted you guys to see it.

Ginger,
If your coin is about the size of a Quarter, then it is a Shilling. There are 2 obverse types for the Jubilee Head coinage - the small head type & the large head type.

The Jubilee Head coinage was issued between 1887 (Golden Jubilee year) & 1893.

Those are very nice coins that you've got there.

Aidan,
It is the size of a quarter and I think it is the large bust type. I love this coin and couldn't wait to have it in hand. Thanks for the compliment, I try to get the nicest I can afford.

Aidan,
By the way, what does the inscription mean on the reverse?

Ginger,
My command of the French language isn't too good, but I can tell you that it is the motto of the Order of the Garter (an English order of knighthood).

Here's an article; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Garter .
