Going by the listing in the Republic India section, one can clearly see that the markets have moved and there is very little interest in Republic India compared to few years back.

I seldomly buy from auctions but listing in this newly launched website is attractive specifically for Mughal coins . what is opinion of other members .

Nothing to patronize , my remarks are general.

Cheers ;D

I don't know about Mugal, but in Republic india, they are a new group from Indore and hence the cost of acquisition of sets is cheap and initially they would also sell cheap. However last 2 auctions I was disapointed, there were cases of mislabeling as well as start price at higher side. I also suspect some shill bidding. So unless you are sure about the coins and price, stay away.

Coin fair to show Bamiyan Buddha artefact

Bella Jaisinghani, TNN | Nov 7, 2013, 06.49 PM IST

MUMBAI: The astounding display at a coin fair opening at Churchgate Friday makes it the perfect weekend outing for children, historians and numismatists.

'Coinex 2013' will be held at Sunderbai Hall from November 8-10. Numismatic books will be sold at discounted rates and four coin auctions are on the anvil.

Around 60 dealers from all parts of India will participate. The Mumbai University booth will be represented by the Dinesh Mody Institute of Numismatic and Archaeological Studies.

An entire exhibition is dedicated to the various kinds of coins minted in honour of Lord Buddha. "Several countries including Nepal, Vietnam and Japan have minted these artefacts. Viewers will get to see coins bearing the image of the Standing Buddha, similar to the Bamiyan statue that was destroyed by the Taliban in Afghanistan," says organiser Girish Veera.

Veera declines to give a monetary value for the items that are up for auction. "It is the historical not financial worth that matters. A silver rupee struck by the Marathas in Lahore reflects the span from 1759-65, when the Marathas' rule spanned 'Atak to Cuttack', that is Afghanistan to modern day Orissa," he says.

"A silver rupee from the northeast shows how the rulers of Assam and Tripura inscribed their queens' names on the coins. If a king had four wives, he would issue separate coins with each of their names on it. Interestingly, most of these coins were octagonal not circular." The history of India will come alive for browsers and bidders alike.

I like Mr. Veera's approach.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I skipped it....again. ;D Actually a friend of mine told me that there's little for world coin collectors so whatever plans I had to visit it today were immediately cancelled. :D

You are both right and wrong.

Even Rbi new governer couldn't able to control inflation and manage deep recession in economy.

How dealers could control if no bidders willing to take interest and participate.

I observed lot of shill bidding happening at various levels that discourage genuine buyers to enter in the game.

Moreover items were estimated at cheap prices than yester years but quality of coins offered also degraded.

Interesting part is slabbed coins market is diminishing due to obvious reasons.
