I decided to start collecting XX-XXI century occupation coins. These are coins, which were introduced  in a country which was invaded by foreign military power. These coins differ from coins in a country before invasion, but are also different from invading country's own coinage. So, for example, Soviet Union coins, which were introduces in Baltic states, Ukraine etc. after occupation during world war II and after it, doesn't count as occupation coins since they were the same as ones used in Soviet Union before.

Most of these kind of coins are from WW1 and WW2 (at least in Europe), but there are some from current times (coins of Iraq, introduced after NATO invasion in 2004).

Below is list of occupation coins I managed to find. Please let me now if there is more :)

I have a collection of Reichskreditkassen here, both notes and coins, that were used in the German occupation of the Channel Islands.

I am still missing a couple of the lowest denominations the 2 and 1 Reichspfennig.

Have a look at  my tokens and my banknotes.

There's a whole lot more - or less, depending on your definition. For instance, those Belgian coins are regular Belgian coins. Not German occupation coins. There are similar cases in other countries, e.g. the Dutch, Danish and Norwegian zinc coins issued in the second world war. At the same time, you have missed the generic occupation coins issued by the nazis and the Allied issues for Germany. There are plenty of Allied coin issues for occupied and liberated territories, emergency banknotes and banknotes and coins for use in concentration camps and even coins for colonies of occupied countries. You may also include the forged British banknotes created by the nazis, using concentration camp labour. In addition, there are army token issues for their own troops, for prisoners of war and for occupation forces after the nazi surrender.

It helps to locate a second hand copy of Foreign coins struck by US mints, a discontinued US government publication. Send me a PM if you want a spreadsheet summarising these issues, but be patient. I am travelling at the moment.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
