Attica: A CHOICE Athenian 'new series' Tetradracm
« on: February 25, 2013, 11:14:41 AM »
Greece, Attica, Athens, 122 BC, Silver Tetradrachm, 29mm, 16.73g

A real regal and warrior portrait of Athena on the Obverse. Looking at the head gear, I can't help but wonder and go back in time as to the terror the Greek soldiers and cavalry, adorned with their helmet with long flowing plumes giving them a mightier and bigger appearance, would have struck upon the enemy as they watched the Greeks approach from a distance. Clouds of dust kicked by the feet of running soldiers and galloping horses, huge size of soldiers adorned with their head gear, glint of steel flashing from swords and spears, lusty battle cry and sound of bugles - the Greek army must have been an imposing sight indeed.
