I recently purchased an 1881 3 cent coin.

Yes, I quite like that design, brief though it was. There's also the silver one from a few years earlier.

Apologies for the hole, this is the best example of this type I have (the others are badly worn).

No need to apologise for a holed coin. As long as the hole was made more than 75 or so years ago, my view is that the holes are a credible part of the coin's story. By that I mean that the hole likely served a purpose for an owner of the coin, i.e., to put it on a string to keep it close whilst on a long journey.
