If someone ask you too, would you do it?

I am proud of what I collect and want the world to see it
I like my collection and I want to share images of it with the members
I keep my collection to myself
I do not think my collection is that special to show it to anybody
It is for my eyes only and no one else

In june 2006 I have had an exhibition of my collection at a local library for over a month. My collection in a vitrine well insured. I have had some 100 reactions to it in a guestbook from the public, so I know other people appreciate my efforts building the collection.

Can you make that step forwards? Or don't you have the desire for it?

Decades ago, part of my collection figured in an exhibition on money in Amsterdam. It's a nice memory, but I may never do it again.

At the time, the exhibitors were completely trustworthy. There was adequate security and the exhibitors handled the coins professionally. However, I know too many horror stories of incidents happening to me or others. Books lent for photography returned with big smudges, coins lost through negligence or mishandled. Worse, exhibitors being cavalier about your loss. "Well, it was a cheap coin anyway", "just send us the bill", "I washed my hands before handling them", or even "you found it, so you got it for nothing in the first place". Insurance definitely doesn't help. Coins have an emotional value you cannot replace. There's a story to how you got them. You can replace the coin if you are lucky, but it won't be the same.

If I go for it again it'll be with trustworthy professionals only.

My collection is so young, it's not even an adolescent yet.  But,
I'm a teacher by training with a passionate love of history. So, yes, I could be seduced into
exhibiting my collection.
Seduced? As in "you want to come over and see my coin collection sometime?"
Didn't WC Fields once say that to Mae West?
Well then, tempted, or persauded, or encouraged a bit. I'm shy.
Though it might be interesting to actually be an exhibit, say in China, labeled:
Inscrutable Occidental with Prized Collection of Pre-Lberation Tibetan Tangkas.  (Doesn?t speak Chinese but will flip coin to reverse for Dim Sum)
That way I wouldn't have to insure the collection or even let others handle it.

:D I saw that big smile on your avatar, Richie :D

Anyway, it was PT Barnum, not WC Fields  ;)

Hi all,
I was asked by some of my college friends to put my coin collection for display in our college.Unfortunately,I do not have any "numismatist" friends in college. There are few collectors which I know, but they have become inactive since they lost their interest in numismatics.I liked their idea of exhibition, but the problem was with display, and we could not organize such exhibition.I was surprised when I saw a few students in our college who do not collect coins, but they were excited when they saw my collection. They still insist me to organize the exhibition. My idea is that we can arrange exhibition of 3-4 collectors at a time,so that it will be more successful. But as there are no such collectors, this idea has not come true. But one thing is sure-I am proud of my collection and my hobby.Exhibition does not matter much!

I have shown parts of my collection to friends at my local Philatelic Society, when we had an evening dedicated to 'our other hobbies'.  However, it is harder to do so than my stamp collection!

I always allow people to handle my Roman Republic denarii; after all they have survived 2000+ years perfectly happily so far, and the thought of handling a coin that pre-dates Christ thrills most people.

If anybody wanted to have (some of) my coins in an exhibition, I would immediately ask, what's wrong with you? :)  What I have is not really special. Yes, special for me, but worth being displayed in public? Nah.

Two possible exceptions: At a coin club meeting or similarly semi-public venue, I might show some pieces. (Would not be terribly interesting for those who come though.) Also, one time I talked to a class of, I think, third graders in California - and for that I had actually brought some euro coins with me. Nothing precious, but that was fun, and I would do something like that again ...
