ORIENTAL NUMISMATIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING UTRECHT 19 OCTOBER 2013

Dear Friends,

The annual meeting of the Oriental Numismatic Society in the Netherlands, will be held on Saturday 19 October 2013 at the premises of the Geldmuseum (Money-museum) Leidseweg 90, Utrecht. Members of continental Europe are separately informed with the latest Journal #216.
For all others and for those who didn't receive the program of the meeting, it can be found at the ONS-website http://www.onsnumis.org/utrecht2013.shtml

The provisional program will consist of presentations by Patrick Pasmans: The coinage of Attambelos IV of Characene; Jan Lucassen & Jan Lingen: Two lacs of Bharatpur and 'Bindrabund' rupees and 15 bags of copper pyce, captured on Christmas 'eve 1804;Shailendra Bhandare: 'Deep monetization' and 'Kachchafication' of copper currency in early 19th century.

Moreover, the Geldmuseum (Money-museum) has, as always, some very interesting exhibitions. These exhibitions can be viewed during the lunch-break.

Traditionally, at the end of the meeting a small auction of Oriental coins and related books will be held. The proceeds of this auction is a welcome addition to the ONS-funds. For the auction list see: http://www.onsnumis.org/auctions/auct2013.pdf
All the lots of this auction has been uploaded at the ZENO.RU Oriental Coins Database. http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=10511

As the announcement was listed well in advance, just a reminder that the annual meeting of the Oriental Numismatic Society in the Netherlands, will be held on Saturday 19 October 2013.
For the program see the earlier announcement above.

Somehow, other obligations keep getting in the way.

Will there be an auction again that our members can participate in?

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Oesho

Yes, there is an auction in which the WoC-members can also participate. For the auction list see here. All lots are linked to the the ZENO-website
The estimates are reasonably modest and bidding starts at about 75-80% of the estimate, provided no more then 2 postal bids have been received. An excellent opportunity to obtain nice oriental coins for a decent price. Moreover the commission charged is only 5% !!!
This time we have also a large selection of books. An opportunity to obtain some already 'out of print' publications.
Let members try and they will definitely not regret it.

Have the results of the auctions been posted?

Oesho

As I was busy the weekend with the meeting as well as social activities, I just could started to work out the auction results.
Hopefully later to-day or to-morrow I can put the results on line.
But is good to say that it was again a successful meeting. A couple of interesting and well prepared presentations. The meeting was attended by almost 30 people.

I tried to attach a Word-file with the results, but it's too heavy.

Edit: prices realised.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for that. I have one researcher who will be a very happy man. I am surprised at how cheap it sold for.

Oesho

Arthur, The ONS-auction is a Society's auction for members and sincere collectors, completely done by volunteers. Prices are very decent and a commission of 5% is not commercial either. It is basically for promoting Oriental numismatics and providing members the possibility to obtain single coins, which commercial auction houses hardly can do.

Therefore let people watch next year when the ONS-meeting will be held on Saturday 18 October 2014. Venue will still be decided, but the meeting incl. an auction will continue.

BTW, unsold lots may still be obtainable at the reserve price (approx. 75-80% of the estimate for coins and at 90-95% for the books).
Lots can be seen at: http://onsnumis.org/auctions/auct2013.pdf

I really urge people to look at this annual auction. It supports a good cause and the prices are very reasonable. And there is guarantee of correct attribution.
