Issue of ` 5 coins to commemorate the occasion of "125th Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul kalam Azad" 


The Government of India has minted the above mentioned coins which the Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation.

Details regarding design, shape, etc. of these coins have been notified in the following Gazette of the Government of India, dated October 14, 2013 published by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs-

The Gazette of India-Extraordinary- Part II-Section 3-Sub-section (i)- No.519

These coins are legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011. The existing coins in this denomination shall also continue to be legal tender.

Amongst the longest one in recent times to have the coin release function held in November last year and coin put into circulation ...
There were other coins that were released later and coins release earlier ...

I don't agree with you. That dubious distinction goes to Bhagat Singh and few mores..

That dinstinction goes to Telecom centenary ( or what was it?)
Released in a function ages ago.
Never issued in circulation.

Similar status by Gur ta Gaddi 10 Rupees bimetallic.
At least those were sold as single coin proofs.

Do we count Tilak ji release too?

Not all coins that have a release ceremony are put into circulation, but are available only in Proof & UNC sets. The vice versa is also true, quite a few coins there was no release ceremony or Proof / UNC sets but were put into general circulation.

Kolkata Mint has started booking of proof and unc sets of Begum Akhtar and  Maulana Azad.

Surprisingly they have also started re-booking of restruck sets like:

Syama Prasad Mookerjee
Lal Bahadur Shahtri
Sant Tukaram

Yes recd my set on 4th July....

The Rs 20 coin is of 30 Gms with 180 serrations.
