Greetings,

I thought I would post the resources that I myself use and know of, in hope that more people will share resources that I did not know of, to help me in future searches. I want to move from being a person who posts "please help with ID" to being the person who answers those threads with an ID.

  • Grifterrec.com - Literally hundreds of coins in categories spanning from the Romans through Armenia to the Hunnic empires, around the Black sea area, to the Indo-Greek cultures, Sassanians and Indian civilizations.
  • Coinindia.com - Brilliant pictures and descriptions with many rare gold and silver coins, excellent dating guides and legend descriptions for many Western Kshatrapas.
  • This Baldwin Auctions .PDF - A large amount of coins, some very rare, with excellent pictures.
  • This ancient coins blog - The blog is almost empty but has brilliant pictures of many punch marks found on early coppers.
  • Zeno.ru - Of course one of the main websites for identifying these types of coins. Hundreds if not thousands of pictures.
  • The index of coins on this very board - Also extremely helpful in pinning down the type of coin if not outright identifying it sometimes.

Please add more if you are able to. Thank you!

Hello Chris,

For our collection of resources, we use the follwing boards:

Printed material (note the bibliographies)
Useful links
Other resources

Since your post uses at least two of the above, it is difficult to move it in the right place. Also, you'll see that there is some duplication with existing threads. Maybe you can copy/paste appropriate links to the right board? Thanks in advance.

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Hi,
I felt that a thread with resources specific to the coins discussed of this board would be helpful.

If you disagree I will see if any of the links I posted here are missing from the threads you posted, then post them to there.

I was avoiding printed material specifically to have an on-hand list of resources available from any device with an internet connection. I will check out the links and see if there are any good ones that I missed!

Thank you for the additional links capnbirdseye.

Also thanks to Figleaf for moving to the right board on the forum.

I recently removed much information from one of our research sites because of misuse of copyright . This was rather sad given the cost of setting up the site and the large amount of new information that was about to be posted. The actions of three people has caused this but they said they would do it and they did.

A free resource can still be copyright. A free resource that is copyright does mean that you can copy and post that resource across the internet at your pleasure. At least this time it has not stopped research just pushed it quietly underground and the resource will be limited in future.
