New Potential Coin: 2013: 100 Years of Indian Cinema

Dear Friends

Dadasaheb Phalke released his feature film Raja Harishchandra on 3rd May 1913. After 100 years, Indian film industry is the largest in the world in terms of movies released every year as well as in terms on viewership.

Centenary of Indian cinema is being celebrated in 2013. GOI created a record of sorts by issuing 50 stamps on a single day. These stamps were issued in form of six Mniature Sheets.

There are unconfirmed rumors that  commemorative coins may also be issued. I will keep you updated.

This FDC was released by President Shri. Pranab Mukherjee on 03 May 2013 to marks "100 Years of Indian Cinema"




1) Miniature Sheet issued on 03 May 2013 by India Post. It contains 08 stamps of denomination Rupees 05 each. The stamps depict Allu Ramalingiah, Ashok Mehta, Balraj Sahni, Bhanumati, C V Sridhar, Chetan Anand, Kamaal Amrohi and Geeta Dutt.


2) Miniature Sheet issued on 03 May 2013 by India Post. It contains 08 stamps of denomination Rupees 05 each. The stamps depict Kannadasan, Madan Mohan, Mehmood, Motilal, Nagesh, O P Nayyar, Prem Nazir and R.D. Burman.



3) Miniature Sheet issued on 03 May 2013 by India Post. It contains 08 stamps of denomination Rupees 05 each. The stamps depict Raj Khosla, Rajendra Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, S.V. Ranga Rao, Salil Chaudhry, Sanjeev Kumar, Shailendra and Shakeel Badayuni.


4) Miniature Sheet issued on 03 May 2013 by India Post. It contains 09 stamps of denomination Rupees 05 each. The stamps depict Ashok Kumar, B.N Sircar, B.R.Chopra, Bhalji Pendharkar, Bhupen Hazarika, Dev Anand, Dhirendernath Ganguly, Durga Khote and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.


5) Miniature Sheet issued on 03 May 2013 by India Post. It contains 09 stamps of denomination Rupees 05 each. The stamps depict Majrooh Sultanpuri, Naushad, Nitin Bose, Prithviraj Kapoor, Raichand Boral, Ruby Myers, Sohrab Modi, Tapan Sinha and Yash Chopra.

I  think possibly RBI /GOI will issue few coins of  some denomination to commemorate this event this year.
