A nice addition to my collection of squarish coins. I'm sure squarecoinman will know more about it. :)

Jersey £1 (1981), KM# 51, Copper Nickel, 9.0 g, in Blister Pack, Commemorates Bicentenary of Battle of Jersey, Mintage: 200,000 (UNC), 15,000 (Proof). I have no idea about how many such blisters were issued..

Obverse: Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse: Badge of Royal Militia of the Island of Jersey

This coin has long been one of my favourites.

The Battle of Jersey was also commemorated on the Jersey 1976 issue one pound note featured The Death of Major Pierson, during the battle, January 6th 1781 and then in 1989 this design was re-used, this time on the ten pound note.

A set of stamps was also issued featuring the painting by John Singleton Copley RA.

I am not a stamp collector but this set below was on a package I received from Jersey at the time and is much too nice to throw away. values 7p, 10p, 13p and 17½p in gold font.

Thanks Malcolm, a nice set of stamps indeed! :)

I believe that these coins must have circulated (to some extent atleast?) as squarish coins were quite common in 70's and 80's?

I do not have many Jersey coins so indeed very happy to have this one in my collection! :)

The same painting figures on a Jersey banknote.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Aditya the correct numbers are

200.000 circulation
6000 proof ( Al part of a year set )
10.000 silver

A.L.T. McCammon in his Currencies of the Anglo-Norman Isles. 1984 said these one pound coins 'enjoyed a limited circulation'.

@ Bimat could you scan the L/H card again I can't quite read it; I can see at the bottom it says see overleaf this may be of interest too.

Thanks scm! Does that mean that all the 200,000 unc coins were issued in blister?

Peter,

Thanks for posting the picture of banknote! I think I'll now try to get the banknote too (provided it's not too hard to find), it will make a perfect pair with the coin! :)
