Parma Alessandro Farnese III Cavallotto
« on: May 28, 2013, 09:59:52 PM »
Dear friends,
this coin has some peculiarities.
One of them - DVX IIII, not DVX III.
And there are others.
I cant find same coin in WWW.

What can be said about the piece & its price?

I rather think the fourth "I" you are seeing is part of the tunic engraving rather than part of the legend.

I suggest you check the illustrations of other examples. I think this is  just a strange wear patter. See the left hand side of the tunic for what I am describing.

I have been working off memory but I have found a coin like yours illustrated. Here is the link. Check the design of the tunic/collar where you believe the fourth I is.
