Bulgaria customs 'rescue' numismatic treasure
19 April 2013

Kalotina. Customs officers at the Kalotina checkpoint foiled an attempt of illegal export of numismatic treasure last night, the press office of the Bulgarian National Customs Agency (NCA) announced for FOCUS News Agency.

During a check on a passenger's bus travelling on a regular run from Bulgaria to Germany, customs inspectors detected a suitcase in the luggage booth, which was travelling individually, without being accompanied by a passenger.

A search in the suitcase detected a double bottom where customs authorities found hidden some 244 ancient coins, most of which made of gold and silver.

The coins were sent for analysis. An indictment for customs violation has been issued. Work on the case continues.

Hi,

any follow up on that story?

No. Just another story about archeological objects taken out of Bulgaria to support Cavaros' tales of plundered Bulgarian museums.
